Gabrielle Kimm lives in West Sussex.  She is married, with two teenage daughters, and has taught English and Drama in local secondary schools, on and off, for nearly twenty years.

Her first novel, His Last Duchess (Sphere 2010), is set in Renaissance Italy.  It was originally inspired by a Robert Browning poem, and it tells the story of the ill-fated marriage of the fifth duke of Ferrara, and Lucrezia de’ Medici.  His Last Duchess was longlisted for the RNA novel of the year 2010.    Gabrielle’s second novel The Courtesan’s Lover (Sphere 2011)  takes a secondary character from His Last Duchess – Francesca, the duke’s mistress – and places her centre stage as she struggles to become a courtesan in Spanish-occupied Naples.  The opening chapter of The Courtesan’s Lover was shortlisted for the Impress Prize for Fiction in 2007.

Gabrielle gained an MA in Creative Writing with Distinction from the University of Chichester in 2007.

She is represented by Judith Murray at Greene & Heaton (jmurray@greeneheaton.co.uk)
